Luciano Berio's Laborintus II: A Neo-Avant-Garde Celebration of Dante.

Laborintus II: A Neo-Avant-Garde Celebration of Dante. Suvini-Hand, Vivienne.

In: Italian Studies, Vol. LIII, 1998, p. 122-149.

In 1963 the ORTF (French Radio) commissioned the composer Luciano Berio and the poet Edoardo Sanguineti to write a work celebrating the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante's birth. The result was LABORINTUS II, named after Sanguineti's original Laborintus (1951–54) — a long prose poem which was instrumental in sparking off the neo-avant-garde movement in Italy.
